Adidas paying someone to wear their logo isn't the same as a bar paying an appearance fee.

The state treatment will vary based on contractual obligations (and a contract requiring a student athlete to be team member in good standing, for example, could be interpreted to require nexus in non-resident states. Work with auditors from MY, .CA, NJ, or the commonwealth of PA, and report back to me on how much power you think they have.

As I said before - it will come down to materiality.
