years people couldn't believe I didn't have my HAM license. All those years of HAVING to answer a radio and being at a dispatcher's beck and call didn't give it much appeal. I had a scanner for work, but the only time it got turned on at home was during severe weather to monitor the JOCO storm spotters and the MERS channel.
Finally a customer in Emergency Management guilted me into getting my license. I half-assed studied on-line at hamclass.org a few times. Hadn't touched it for 4 months or so and my buddy calls me because his club is testing on Saturday.
So I go that morning and take the Technician test and aced it. "You might as well take the General since you are here". Oh OK.
I didn't ace it, but passed the General. Most of the questions I missed were regulatory regarding things like satellite telephony in the microwave freqs. Really obscure things I'll never use.
