40 years of unparalleled, consistent success (early 1960s to the early 2000s) during which they "were in the hunt" for national championships many of those years. I have begrudging respect for their loyalty and (hopeless) optimism. Not many places where you can sell out your home stadium every game with a sub-.500 team, (even with wealthy boosters and corporations making up shortfalls in ticket sales). Some are more realistic than others. My niece is married to a die-hard Husker fan. Although he is always optimistic about Nebraska's chances in any given game, he concedes that they will never recapture the "golden era" under Devaney and Osborne. The favorable circumstances and advantages they once had are now long gone.
