Since day one, my main concern with Odom was recruiting, and I was very clear about that.
Despite what some of you may think, I tried to be patient with him in the first couple seasons – just in case his coaching acumen was able to compensate for his mediocre recruiting – but it was apparent early on that wasn't the case.
So unfortunately, that created a situation similar to Kim Anderson – a lameduck coach who needed to be ousted as soon as possible, for the sake of the program (which always comes first).
I wish that hadn't been the case with Kim or Odom, since they're alums, but the programs aren't nepotistic charities. We needed to move on
