If that were the case Missouri would have never been invited to join in the first place.
Schools don't contribute revenue to the SEC. The conference distributes equal shares of the revenue to the schools. Revenue earned from TV deals and subscribers to the network and postseason,etc.
Also, under the current arrangement Bowl games are finite. They wouldn't get more bowl games by adding a different school.
The SEC already has a presence in the South Carolina area. Adding Clemson would not get them a lot of new tv sets.
Also, there are more TV viewers in the states with the most population.
State population (mainly STL and KC) is the biggest factor for why Missouri got the invite.
