before they lost ou and texas. most would argue the only thing making them a p5 conference was the existence of ou and texas, but even then it was a stretch. remove them from the equation and it's clearly not in the same ballpark as the remaining p4.

put another way, are the PAC, B1G and ACC really going to sit back and cede a potential automatic playoff spot to one of the leftover 8, knowing that 9 times out of 10 it will come at the expense of one of their schools?
