The Big Eight, to everyone outside of the Big Eight, was Oklahoma and Nebraska. What elite school might be third to mind? No one. Missouri is third in football championships with 12, but most were so long ago that the number Eight wasn't associated with the conference yet. kansas and Colorado tie for 4th with 5 titles each. There just aren't any name brands left that matter on a national level. The remaining teams should expand. To quote a friend from college, "If she doesn't meet your standards, lower them". There are a lot of teams that would work. Figure it out and get to 16. Raid the American, Mountain West and maybe pick up BYU. No one is coming to save the left overs. They need to expand.
