• He gave Cuonzo an iron-clad contract that made it prohibitively expensive (i.e. virtually impossible) to fire him for at least 6 years, no matter how poorly he does.

Any AD was going to have to do something like this for a new coach after Kim Anderson. We were the worst program in P5 college basketball and no coach worth a darn was going to come into that crappy situation without some ironclad guarantees. I think a lot of people forgot just how bad we were when Cuonzo took over.
