made illegal? That would violate the right of self ownership of their body. That is the same for mask mandates, forced vaccinations. If it is made illegal, then that is violating a person's right to self ownership.
Walking up to someone and shooting them is a crime and it is illegal. That is an act violating someone else's right of self ownership of their body.
If however, someone attacked another person, that other person would have a right to defend themselves including up to lethal force if necessary for defense. Both individuals still have a right to their own bodies, but one is being the aggressor upon another, so the victim is defending their rights.
Following the same logic is abortion. The mother's body is being acted upon by the body of another. Having an abortion is an act of self defense. If technology existed to continue the life of the baby outside the womb, then abortion as self defense would not be applicable. Partial ectogenesis already exists in neonatal units. Scientists are researching how to achieve full ectogenesis for a myriad of reasons from infertility to helping save even more lives of prematurely born babies. You should look at the experiments with lamb fetuses. It is thought within 5 years or so we may have the first artificial wombs for premature babies. Technology will only improve.
A mother killing a 1 year old is never defensible. The 1 year old is incapable of physically harming the mother.
