Gets paid to hit a baseball.
Perfect example was one of the royals first games and Mondesi led off the eighth in a tie game. The shift was on and he grounded out to the second baseman playing in right field.
A slap or bunt down the third base line puts the go ahead run on with no outs, a guy who had 43 stolen bases last year, and the 3,4,5 hitters coming to the plate.
In my book that is about as no brain as it gets. But baseball always struggles with adapting new ideas. Shifting is a new idea, there are ways to beat the shift if you simply adopt them. Baseball players and managers would rather just best their heads against the wall trying to break through though.
