Those always happen, pretty much every relocation. But usually they are a few million dollars. Maybe 10-20 million at most - cost of doing business.
But... this lawsuit is around $1 billion or more, because STL is suing every owner in the league and going for their entire relocation fee amount, which equals $1.2 billion ($600 million each from the Rams and Chargers to the other 30 owners).
If STL wins... Kroenke not only still owes the NFL owners their $600 million relocation fee... he would also have to pay St. Louis $1.2 billion as well since he agreed to accept their liability.
It's like a double dip. I love it.
So here is what Kroenke will do. He will file the Rams for Bankruptcy if it doesn't work out. He can walk away and tell the NFL to F' Off and the Rams can be their headache.
They'd have to operate the team, find a new owner or fold them.
So he has some leverage against the league, because they are business partners that probably don't want that burden.
It's a wonderfully twisted mess he has created.
