I’ll make a bold prediction it will be less than 100% that return for the extra eligibility year, lol. But I wouldnt even venture a wild guess as to what the final percentage will be. A number of current seniors have already said they intend to come back. And some have already said they will not return.
One concern I have from Matters article about the ruling is he said the NCAA didn’t say, and will have to clarify in tbe future, exactly what academic load the returning seniors will have to carry in the 2020-21 academic year in order to play in the 2021 softball season. Certainly you can’t be a student athlete without the “student” part, right? The answer to that question will factor into the final number that return.
And there will be other factors too, some unknown at this point. No one has talked much about the COVID 19 factor on the economy, which is already disastrous and will get worse before it starts getting better. Depending on the time it takes for the economy to recover, some seniors may come back due to a job market situation that offers far fewer employment opportunities at least in the short run. They may decide to stay in school another year and play another season and enter the job market in the summer of 2021 when hopefully jobs are more plentiful.
