(1) We shouldn't be scheduling ROAD games against teams like Wyoming, as it drastically increases the chance of a loss in a no-win situation with severe consequences for losing. If you win, no one cares. If you lose, your season is crushed. Had this game been played at home, we'd be 3-0 right now and ranked in the top 20. But instead we're an afterthought, and it's all because of moronic scheduling decisions. If you're going to schedule a non-con ROAD game, it should be a respectable opponent where there's more upside for a win and less downside for a loss.
(2) We shouldn't be scheduling FCS opponents anymore. Fans and season ticket holders hate it, but most of all it's another no-win situation. We won, and no one cares. Had we lost, the fallout would have been even worse than Wyoming.
Why can't we schedule a non-con slate like this instead:
• P5 home-and-home (e.g. Iowa, Arizona, NC State, etc...)
• P5 home-and-home or neutral (e.g. Illinois, Nebraska, K-State, etc...)
• Non-P5 FBS @ home (AAC, MWC, or an independent like BYU or UConn)
• Non-P5 FBS @ home (same as above)
That would give you 3 home + 1 road, or 2-3 home + 0-1 road + 1 neutral, with all opponents FBS and 2 of them P5.
