Well in Odom's defense the non-contact tackling is a new trend. A lot of bag tackling, tackling tube drills etc. Live tackling in practice is becoming less and less prevalent at all levels in a effort to make the game safer.

I think it makes it worse as you see a lot of poor form in tackling etc.
