People are worried about everyone being drunk around them should beer sales be allowed. Every study that’s been done has shown heavy tailgaters don’t self-medicate nearly as aggressively during pregame when alcohol is available inside. Obviously, anyone undertaking a study can set the parameters to basically get the results they want. If done right (& responsibly) the school’s use a vendor who has the main exposure. The vendor has to operate under the rules set by the school (when to quit serving, limiting the number of orders per person & so on). Many have started off offering only to premium level ticket holders & donors in an effort to increase their numbers.

WVU has the reputation of having the worst acting (& drunkest) fans in America. Since they began serving (during Oliver Luck’s time as AD), the number of alcohol related incidents has dropped noticeably. I wish I could readily access every article I’ve ever read but a couple I saw after their first season of alcohol sales was interesting.
