reproductive cells... gametes.
The male produces sperm.
The female produces an oocyte--usually referred to as an "ovum" or "egg"
The sperm contains 26 chromosomes from the male, & the oocyte contains 23 chromosomes from the mother.
When the two combine an ontological change occurs. A new unicellular human being with 46 chromosomes comes into existence. That unique human being will have that same exact set of 46 chromosomes for the rest of his or her life.
There is no other ontological change throughout that human being's life. Like all other human beings, all that he or she needs to continue surviving is appropriate nutrition and a safe environment.
