do you knowingly take lesser qualified/capable people for something in order to achieve diversity?

If so, why?

When?

What's the morality play here?

I have never understood the viewpoint that it is noble or moral to knowingly select someone lesser capable of doing X just to ensure inclusion of a category of human (race, gender, sexuality, age, other).

Do you? If so, what's the morality in that?
