the message is the same. It appears that the Cardinal organization is;
1. Happy with what they have in the minors as regards talent
2. Unwilling to do a Pujols/Harper/Goldschmidt kind of deal
3. Looking for a short-term bridge (3-5 years) to allow the minor league talent to work its way up to the MLB team
Thus - why they won't sign a long term, high-dollar contract. Even if it would otherwise appear logical.
