And ultimately, that is why he probably ended up at Notre Dame.

Digger Phelps has said his failure to get Stipanovich led to the decline of Notre Dame basketball from the Final Four height of the late 70's. Kleine was the consolation prize - he was too good to simply be Stipo's backup.

But - Stipo was good enough to play front to the basket, so, I've always wondered "what if".....

Another Missouri big man not willing to sit behind Stipo - Jon Koncak. More "what if"
