mother****er has become versatile in it's use, however I don't think it's really smart to refer to people you don't know as it to their face.

I will use it to refer to someone I really love and respect.

"Listen to what this mother****er did...."

"That mother****er got so drunk he..."

If I told a bartender, "you've served this mother****er twice and haven't taken my order once", the dude I was referring to would probably take offense
