Odom has zero ability to recruit any longer.

I don't mean that he doesn't have the skill, or the know-how. He's done very well as a recruiter at Mizzou, helping Pinkel build a winner.

But this is a different situation. He is the head coach of a decade-long winning football program, of the largest university in the state. We have high expectations now. Gary Pinkel proved that there is no reason for a coach to NOT be successful at Mizzou.

you can not only win at Mizzou... you can win big. You can be ranked #1. You can win a National Title. Hell... we were an eyelash from playing in that game twice.

And yet, here we are 6-13 under his watch. Pitiful. Blowouts, embarrassments. Sloppy play. Ugly play. Total embarrassment... they don't even compete much of the time.

How is he supposed to sell any kid on the fact that he knows how to be a head coach (never been one), that he will rebuild the program (which he destroyed in the first place), or that he will even be around in the next 12-24 months?

Pinkel and Smith took over losers. They had to build something from nothing. And they also were justifiably allowed to blame any program shortcomings on the circumstances they were left by previous staffs and administrations. They could sell a dream... and they had credibility, because they were veteran coaches that had histories of rebuilds at other schools as head coaches.

Odom is finished.

He took over a winner. Within 2 years, it's taken a nose dive. Everyone sees it. Coaches like that aren't likely to stick around. And who wants to take a gamble on an inexperienced first-time coach that is making a program worse and won't be around much longer. Recruits know it.

We won't get anybody worth anything till this problem is resolved.

A coach has to be able to have a believable, credible story to sell recruits.

What on earth's could Odom's be anymore?
