to explain why they were wanting to make whatever changes they want to make. If he's still negative after that, then he's not on board the team train and has to go.
That being said, if you ignore that organizational history, you risk losing a huge knowledge base. Stuff like, "This kind of appeal offends this particular booster, here's how you handle him, kind of thing."
