Think of it like the Moneyball debate in MLB about traditional scouting vs. statistical metric evaluations. Gary was likely "old school" and wanted to continue what he thought works with mid-Missourians that he's been around forever. The new administration may just feel that it's time for a change and what they were doing was working, but not well enough. So, you move on.
