my reading is that the second amendment does not protect those weapons not typically possessed by law-abiding citizens for lawful purposes; that handguns may be possessed in the home for self-defense; and that there is a limitation on local government to outlaw possession of handguns.

it's that third one i find disagreeable. in essence, it unnecessarily limits local government by interpreting militia to mean self-defense. that's inartfully stated, but i think you get the gist of what i'm saying.

even within the confines of second amendment law, there is ample room for the federal government to take action in implementing regulations. of course, that is unlikely to happen for a variety of reasons.
