then you have no excuse for a sh*tty defense for 2 consecutive seasons.

You are the HEAD coach. You are responsible for hiring assistants and coordinators and making sure they're doing their job. If necessary, you step in and do the job yourself, if that's what it takes. It's not unprecedented for head coaches to also be coordinators. Mike Gundy is a well-known example, as he was both HC and OC for a long time at oSu.
