And other "hostilities" pale in comparison to seizing military facilities and bombarding another. Basically confiscating American assets.
The southern states wanted to preserve slavery so they bolted. In the Jim Crow south many southern "heroes" were honored to be a reminder that they still love their traitorous brothers. The KKK was a powerful organization at the time many monuments were resurrected.
