several top 20 or even top 10 recruiting classes preceding them, and many of those players would be upperclassmen this year. Howland is also a good coach and teacher, in addition to being a great recruiter.
Mississippi State isn't exactly an easy place to win/recruit, and he's only been there 2 seasons. If you look at his coaching resume, year 3 is when his programs typically take off. I think he would have done extremely well here at Missouri.
With that said, I'm very pleased with the Cuonzo Martin hire and of course the monster recruiting class he's helped land (along with MPJ). He's an excellent recruiter, a great defensive coach, a near-perfect fit for MU, and still fairly young as far as established head coaches are concerned. Overall, he's probably the best coach we could have hired post-KA.
