What matters is how strong scouts view the 2017 class in comparison to the 2018 class and also how much scouts were expecting Jontay to improve with another year in HS as opposed to playing in college right now. A 5 star 2019 player is being graded differently than a 5 star 2017 player. They aren't suggesting they are equivalent or would be equally likely to excel in college if they both played in college right now. The same would be true of a 2018 player.
