I think Mizzou softball just signed another player...

Seriously, this is a very impressive class on paper. Lots of speed, hitting for average, and power spread all around. A catcher who can really hit to move into the position as soon as K. Mack graduates, in Trenity Edwards from Oklahoma, who also happens to be Kayla Kingsleys cousin. And another stud pitcher in Lauren Rice. All positions covered too as EE noted. And nearly all excelled at the highest levels of softball in their respective states.
But let's get real. Recruiting 11 players to a single class is not normal. Particularly when the previous class had 8 signing. 19 true freshmen and sophomores for the spring of 2018 season is something we have never come close to seeing at Mizzou. And the total roster that season, assuming no more defections, would stand at a staggering 29. Again unheard of.
It may not have been planned this way, since most girls verbally commit well before they sign. But we needed large signing classes for the 2017 and 2018 seasons in the worst way because of the fact that our current Junior and Senior classes were decimated by players transferring for a variety of reasons.
We only have 4 players in our current senior class (Fleming, Mack, Rathburn, Baxter), and only 3 in our junior class (Sanchez, Bange, and Reed), and of those 7 players, 3 are transfers not originally recruited by Mizzou. Only Mack, Fleming, Sanchez, and Bange remain from the 12 players we signed who should be the veteran core of this team today.
So while bringing in 11 signees in one year, and 19 in a 2 year period is not normal, it is absolutely what Mizzou needs to rebuild this program into a top 10 team that starts getting back to the WCWS more often than not.
Expectations for the 2017 season are going to be low for me (by usual Mizzou standards), but I am really excited about this team going forward. Of course it depends most of all on the top pitching recruits for 2017-19, Conrad, Rice, and Williams being great in college. Or at least 2 of the 3.
