There are plenty of great players who lack the requisite skills to be a good coach, even in the specific role of a grad assistant, and don't make the necessary transition in roles. I'm assuming EE has taken that into account and not just started to surround himself with favorite ex players for some reason. And that he sees something in both Fagan and Roth that made him think they would be valuable to the team, and to him.
He's at a real crossroads, frankly, after everything that happened here, and needs more than ever to stabilize things and the way to start doing that is to surround himself with well qualified persons on his staff.
