A couple of things. 16 of 39 for 160 yards is awful.

4.1 yds per attempt. 113 yds rushing? Ok, but nothing great in a blowout loss.
23% 3rd down conversion rate 4/17 is not good.
Boykin doesn't play on defense.
Should have, could have and would have...whatever.
You can try to spin it however you want, but it is still a fact that the DC from a team that held WV to 10 points last season is now the DC for the Missouri Tigers. This would indicate that Cross has some kind of clue as to what WV will try to do and having Cross on the staff would be seen as plus.
