has decidedly dropped over the years, particularly when they changed the timing some time back.

They used to be closer to the actual election so any bounce had less time to diminish before the election.

The digital age also has had a tremendous impact. There is just so much more information now and so much is nearly instantaneous that people don't rely on news coverage of the convention as much for their information on where the candidates stand.

They are already pretty well known before the convention and they have far more information in addition to what they may glean from the conventions themselves.

Bottom line, they used to have a much bigger impact than they do now.
