I do agree with this...they've always been overrated...

in terms of impact. They happen in the middle of the summer, which is the worst season for TV ratings.

They attract people that are interest in politics to begin with and who watch because they like politics.

Even if you're an undecided voter and watching these party infomercials to see who to vote for, so much will happen between now and November that it's unlikely you will be swayed by watching.
