"When players do not embrace their role, that is a failure in coaching."
Do you really believe that a coach can make a player embrace their role against their will? This is absurd. If the player is unwilling perform all of his duties, that is on the player.
When players turn against each other, that is a failure in coaching.
When a player does something detrimental to the team, by being selfish, which causes him to be suspended, and that costs the team a win, and doesn't submit to the authority of the coach, and refuses to give full effort in practice, and he snipes about other players, drawing their ire, as the malcontent causes a rift, that is the fault of the coach? No. This is done by the player as an act of free will. To put the matter on the coach, to anticipate what bad things a player might do, and keep them from happening, is to put him above even God, who allows free will. These claims if not serious, would be comically stupid. As they are stated, they are scary, that you actually believe it's possible.
When you go to boot camp, they start out by breaking the will, in order to get your company pliable, and weed out the misfits. Some who sign up for duty are simply not cut out for duty. Some players who have certain skills with a basketball, are not cut out for team play. The company commander roots out this type, who have their own preconceptions about life and authority, which aren't always apparent beforehand. It is the same with a college basketball coach. There are those who appear to have the demeanor and the willingness to submit to the authority of the coach. But let's say a new coach come in, who he did not sign under, and he has not consented to the leadership of the new coach. That is not on the coach.
You may know some things about basketball, but you know nothing about people if you actually believe the drivel you posted.
