It is still a part of freemasonry, although the connection is in name only as they claim no lineal connection to the Order that was disbanded in 1312 by Pope Clement V under orders from King Phillip IV.

An interesting fact many don't know is the "legend" of Friday the 13th comes from October 13, 1307, when the Knights Templar were rounded up and arrested.
