pride itself on it's egalitarianism... pretty much a level playing field for all, and merit, hard work being the main criteria for making it big, with a dash of risk taking thrown in for good measure.
But our dysfunctional education system has made it very difficult to impossible for those in the lowest(er) strata to have a good shot at rising to the top. Even bright students in a ghetto school trying their hardest hardly have a shot at a decent education.
