Benefits or shortcuts not available to real programs. The most significant being they fundamentally and institutionally support cheating or circumventing the law in pursuit of basketball. There will always be places they willingly go to in pursuit of a competitive advantage that no real school programs or valid NCAA members will.
There are zero other programs in the history of the NCAA where it would remotely be considered a plausible outcome that Self was still employed. ku gave him a lifetime contract and a huge raise and encouraged him to cheat to a much greater degree, while not only ignoring their membership obligations to the NCAA and the adverse impact they enacted on real schools but outwardly stating rules do not apply to them and they intend to continue to cheat and operate on an unlevel playing field because that is the strategic objective of their program
