In terms of driver, if you're not playing a modern driver (i.e., any of the well-known manufacturers' releases within the past 3-5 years), you're leaving advantage out on the table.
Suggestion would be to get fit for a driver, as you're going to be paying $500+ for new, although if you have hit some and know your game and what you want, you can probably find a good driver for $100-200 less that's used from last year on 2nd Swing.
Your description of your game indicates probably a regular or senior flex, experiment with shafts (or get fitted) until you find the correct one. Clubfitter may try to get you into an upgraded shaft, don't fall for that **** at your skill level - just get the correct flex and it will be ok.
Aside from that, there's still quite a bit of manufacturing variance in shafts - I've found one driver that I tend to hit very solidly, and another driver (same make/model/etc) that I struggle to find the center of the clubface. It's weird like that.
Regarding 3W. I have very little use for 3W off the tee these days and even less use for it off the deck. Get 5W and maybe utility clubs instead. Many of the manufacturers will make good to acceptable ones, I bought a Ping utility that I love.
And carry a lob wedge for god's sakes.
