they make good points. But it follows to a dark place where a handful have too much power.
The tech bros want our information. It’s why Google is free. Their email, their search engine. The traffic maps showing us where road congestion is. All of it is information they track from us about where we go, they know who we are with and for how long based on phone proximity data. They know what we buy, where we eat.
We are the product. They control the platform. They control what product ads we see, the shopping platforms steer us to what products we can see when shopping that allows the platform owners to maximize profit for themselves. The companies that sell products on these platforms have to make deals on how much cut of the sale the platform owners like Amazon get. Amazon shows us what gives them the most profit.
They set us up as unpaid labor. We generate the data they use to market to businesses. The platform controls access to the market of what gets sold extracting a feudalist type rent from capitalist businesses who have to go along with them.
Google and Apple app stores are pretty much required for developers to sell software. These app stores do nothing but lock down the platform requiring developers to pay them a cut of the profit.
Corporations are loading all their data up on the cloud thinking they are shifting costs from CapEx to OpEx. The cloud providers take all the data for free. Then they charge high fees to corporations to extract their data back. Businesses are literally giving their data away and losing control if they don’t pay fees to access it.
And these same people want to control the government in their “freedom cities”.
Feudalism is back, except this time even the capitalists are having to pay rent to the feudal lords who control the tech platforms.
