year(s) I was thinking of, but OJ Anderson exploded onto the scene, but there was an obvious change after he talked to Franco Harris after a game with the Steelers.
He said Franco told him that he would last a lot longer in the league if he didn't take so many hits... especially when the games were out of hand or if they didn't mean as much.
After that OJ Anderson would often run out of bounds rather than fighting for a few extra yards if it meant he might have taken a hit. He started running out of bounds before a hit even if the first down marker was only another yard or a step or two further & he would have clearly gotten the first down had he wanted it enough to take that hit.
In that year I am talking about the offensive line was rather porous & everyone else went down pretty easily except Stump Mitchell. He would fight like hell for that extra yardage even when the Cardinals were losing.
It especially sucked when it looked like the Cards weren't likely to be in the post season & everyone looked like they were laying down and going through the motions. Stump Mitchell seemed to be the only one who really cared and had the heart to do everything in his power to pull the team over the finish line.
