Hitting a baseball or softball is likely the single most difficult thing in any sports for a player to do. Most of that comes down to the pitcher's ability.
Why Therefore, pitchers over quarterbacks arrive as the most important position in sports because they have the most individual effect on games. IMO, with QBs, he must have good receivers, OLinemen to give him time. Pitchers certainly need good defenders behind them, but mostly, it is just them one on one with hitters.
In baseball, if being 30% successful as a hitter that person a star it makes the pitcher 70% successful.
