I can tell you with certainty that teachers would love

nothing more than to simply teach.

In college I studied Physics and Math because those were the areas I was planning to teach. I also took education classes so I would know the best methods to teach them.

I am a teacher, I know how to teach my curriculum. I am not a therapist. I am not a nurse. I am not a social worker. I am not a counselor. I am not a stand in parent. I am not a friend. I am asked to be all those things. I do not do those things well because they are not in my wheelhouse. In an emergency I can step in and fake it until someone more knowledgeable is available. I don't want to be those things for my students and I sure as hell don't want random strangers being those things for my child.

I am paid to teach, a job I am highly qualified to do. Please stop asking me to set that aside to do things I am poorly qualified to do.

There are a lot of nutty teachers out there. It would be much easier to reign them in if they were only being asked to teach their curriculum and not do all the ancillary stuff too. That is where they really jump the rails.
