a government of those with the best abilities for their role. We don’t have that. We have a representative democracy.
The idea of meritocracy was laid out in Plato’s Republic. All children taken from their parents at a young age, regardless of social or economic status, given the same core education. Those with greater abilities have their education extended. Those who don’t are then put into the working class. Those with greater abilities are further weeded out and put into higher career paths. The very best continue on even further in their education, are selected to become the leaders of government owning no property or wealth, supported by taxpayers in housing, food, clothing, to prevent them using their powers for personal gain in wealth.
