I said they are good "at what they do". They are mainly charged with the duty to find and collect misspent federal program dollars. DOGE is doing something completely different. DOGE is questioning whether there should be federal program at all. And I'm with you 100%, that discussion is very much needed.

I will also point out a regular audit done by an independent CPA would never have found the things DOGE is finding. That is not the purpose of a regular audit.

GAO has a different mission than DOGE, and it should be looked at as well. But by most accounts, they aren't one of the bad ones from what I've heard.
