I've read this same thing in a couple places now, but it seems like he was never sold on coming to MU.

The reason why he signed was so that he could get paid while still in high school. Unique to Missouri at the time, not sure if other states have finally caught up or not. This is also why he played in 4 games or less and preserved his redshirt. He'll have 4 years of eligibility. I think this was always his plan.
