IMO the first amendment does allow him to say what he did

the other day. They were just words. If someone then decides to act on those words they are the one responsible for their actions. His words were generic enough that I would not consider him to be an accomplice if someone were to act on them.
I think the line is crossed 1) when words turn to action and you are there actively encouraging those who are committing those acts or 2) when you give specific instructions that lead to action being taken. For #2 I think it is important that the instructions are specific, go to this house or target that person.
