You cannot attain the rank of Major without some leadership experience. He definitely led men in the military but I doubt he was part of the decision-making for the greater army.
Some might say that is a weakness but here I believe it to be a strength. The problem with the military today is that the upper leadership has gone completely woke and that agenda has trumped creating an effective fighting force. Hegseth rose high enough to understand the military and how it works but he did not rise enough to get embroiled in the social and political games of upper leadership.
If the military is going to be fixed I think it requires someone like him to make it happen.
