Teams doing those crossover games could be taking a fairly big risk.

Texas probably scheduled that game with Michigan a few years or so prior, back when they were still in the Big 12 and weren't sure yet when they would move to the SEC. Not sure if they knew if they were moving to a 12 team playoff either, so they may have thought playing a big time team from one of the P2 schools was needed to solidify a bid to the playoffs.

Now, it's a matter of staying healthy and playing what is likely to be a strong SEC schedule each year.
