many feel like we’re going to 2008 it. Deep down, plenty of us have used those past experiences to keep our hopes in check (but deeper down, if we’re honest, they’re not in check at all until it’s obvious it’s not happening).
2007 & last year were fantastic surprises with mature returning QBs & other significant returners. When we have from January to well into September with all kinds of hope & expectations, as fans, most of us allow our minds new to run wild with the possibilities - especially with our history. Even with the past experience as a cautionary tale, we are still fanatical at the end of the day. I, like many, have tried to manage my own expectations but deep down, have allowed my mind to consider every great possibility and I know it’s not just our fans who do that.
It’s crazy to think how much we put into being fans (& I’m not even talking about time & finances). The real estate this season has occupied in my mind since the Cotton Bowl has been unmatched. Our appetite to finally reach the mountain top (or even be one of the 12 guys competing to attempt the hike) results in some crazy frustration when we think that opportunity suddenly crashes (or deep down, we quietly know it’s not going to happen).
