good politics to get, and keep, the power and control that comes with being in charge of the federal government.

Nothing in those tactics is going to change. Demographic warfare among ever more defined voting blocks is how the game is played now. Ideas are meaningless and more importantly, individual liberty is simply to be surrendered to help the “common good”.
